Mastering Machine Vision Integration

Bringing it All Together

Many of the industrial advancements that have occurred over the past few decades are a direct result of the continuously improving quality and precision of optical imaging systems. Building the best machine vision system for an application requires a high level of attention to the interrelated specification of the imaging lens, camera, and illumination geometry.

Edmund Optics expert engineers, in partnership with others in the industry, will discuss the importance of optical and manufacturing precision for machine vision applications.

  • Lens Lab Session

Many factors go into the lens selection process. There are a number of different types of lenses such as fixed focal length lenses and telecentric lenses, which are used for specific and sometimes different purposes. Knowing about the properties of the inspected object and the specifications of the camera to be used is important for selecting the correct lens.

  • Illumination Lab Session

Selecting the appropriate illumination geometry for the object under inspection is critical to the success of the system. Lenses and cameras are useless without proper lighting techniques.

  • Camera Lab Session

Cameras capture light rays originating from the illumination source, reflected from the object, and refracted through the lens. The camera sensor then renders an image from the pixel grid. Because of this, it is important to correctly pair the camera and lens to get the most performance out of the vision system.
